Mica paper

Mica paper is a material made from finely ground mica flakes, held together by natural cohesion, and is often used for its excellent insulating properties, both electrically and thermally. It’s distinct from traditional “paper” which is made from cellulose. Mica paper can be used in applications like burner gaskets, electrical insulation, and heat-exchanger gaskets.

Mica paper Introduction:

Mica paper is made from crushed mica flakes (white, gold, and synthetic mica) after chemical or hydro-mechanical pulping. It is made into rolls on a circular mesh paper machine at a slow speed and then cut into rolls or flat sheets. Mica paper maintains many of the excellent properties of natural mica and has uniform thickness and a small range of fluctuations in dielectric strength. It can replace natural mica in many applications and opens up a broad prospect for the comprehensive utilization of mica resources.

The mica paper process mainly includes seven steps: sorting, crushing, pulping, papermaking, forming, pressing, and drying.

Papermaking, molding, pressing, and drying are mature processes in mica paper production. So, mica crushing, sorting, and pulping are the most important parts of the entire process. The quality of a process is directly related to the quality of the product.

Mica paper Application:

The main use is that muscovite is the most used in industry, followed by phlogopite. It is widely used in building materials industry, fire fighting industry, fire extinguishing agent, welding rod, plastic, electrical insulation, papermaking, asphalt paper, rubber, pearlescent pigment and other chemical industries. Ultrafine mica powder is used as functional filler for plastics, coatings, paints, rubber and other products to improve their mechanical strength, toughness, adhesion, anti-aging and corrosion resistance. In addition to having extremely high electrical insulation, acid and alkali corrosion resistance, elasticity, toughness and sliding, heat resistance and sound insulation, small thermal expansion coefficient and other properties, it also has the characteristics of smooth sheet surface, large diameter-thickness ratio, regular shape and strong adhesion.
